North Carolina Wineries

The long tradition of winemaking in North Carolina' began with Sir Walter Raleigh's colony on Roanoke Island where the first wild scuppernong (muscadine) vine was cultivated.

Today, North Carolina's mild climate contributes to the success and wide variety of grapes grown across the state, producing more than 500,000 gallons of wine annually. North Carolina now ranks 10th nationally in grape production and 12th for wine production.

After more than a century, North Carolina is rebuilding its grape industry and creating promising futures for its farmers and citizens. Today, North Carolina is home to 50 wineries. Winemakers use both European-types and native muscadines to create quality wines. NC Blue Ridge Mountains
